These trousers are inspired by a beaded coat from the 1920s. We reproduced the beadwork using motifs from a 1789 sampler. Samplers, sewing exercises used to teach and perfect needlework skills, have been standard practice for centuries but are particularly associated with early American craft.
We reproduced the sampler's pink, green, and yellow border along the hem and side seam of these trousers, which have a mid-rise and a straight leg. All beading is worked by hand.
